In the Persephone Descending design she is sculpted down into the rising flames of the underworld. She is positioned amongst flame-tinged autumn trees which are all done by hand after the base model is produced. Each one is unique but carefully matched by finish and arbour design OR you can tell us a little more about your own colour preferences (perhaps based on your sacred space or grove) and we will make one just for you!
In Greek mythology the changing of seasons is told through the story of Persephone and Demeter where Persephone (Goddess of Spring) is abducted by Hades and taken to the underworld to become the Queen. Meanwhile her Mother Demeter (Goddess of Agriculture) searches for her in anguish and her sorrow brings on endless winter. As the people are starving Zeus intervenes and negotiates with Hades so that Persephone is allowed to leave the underworld for 6 months of the year. So every spring when she returns it brings Demeter great joy and the earth come back to life until her descent in autumn.
At the equinox we give thanks for the harvest and bid goodbye to summer as the wheel of the year turns and Persephone returns to Hades.
Product Details: Our version of Persephone stands 13 cm/5" high, 10 cm/4" wide, 6 cm/2.5" deep and weighs 40 gr/1.4 oz.
The core model of Persephone and her base is hand-finished in a proprietary process using earth tones and bronzing materials to give her a unique and aged patina. Because they are hand finished, each one will vary slightly in terms of final shade and sheen.
All of our products are designed and individually 3D printed here in our home studio using a bio-safe, non-toxic, vegetable, wood fibre or sugar-cane based PLA. We then hand-finish each piece, usually smoothing and sanding them using a natural wood fibre material and then acrylic paints or glazes. The cured finishes are non-toxic but the metallic finishes do have the actual metals in them. This is a clean and local process and our materials are selected from those made in Canada or the USA. We are 100% NOT “Made in China” and take some pride in that. Through careful research and testing, we have found a great way to get around the toxic resin and moulding processes used in most of the statues on the market.
